Construction begins on the NERCRAT Advanced Materials Park
The groundbreaking ceremony of Qingdao’s Advanced Polymer and Metal Materials Industrial Park took place at the city’s New West Coast Area on July 20. The National Engineering Research Center for Rubber and Tires’ (NERCRAT) Advanced Functional Materials Industrial Park is a major project in Shandong province and one of the industrial park’s seven construction projects. The completion of the industrial park will facilitate the production of EcoPoint3 tires. Present at the ceremony was Yuan Zhongxue, director of NERCRAT and chairman of Sailun Group.
Spanning an area of 335.2 acres, the 19.5 billion yuan industrial park will have a production capacity of 30 million sets of PCR tires, 150,000 tons of Specialty tires, 500,000 tons of advanced materials production, and 30,000 tons of functional polyolefins. Once the industrial park begins operations, it is expected to generate an annual output worth 40.7 billion yuan, 3.8 billion yuan of profits and a tax revenue of 2.2 billion yuan.
The project focuses on the application of EcoPoint3, an advanced material developed in China using the world’s first liquid phase mixing technology, which will be used in the production of EcoPoint3 tire products. Focusing on building a world-leading smart production base for high-performance tires, the industrial park will expand and strengthen supporting industries with cutting-edge technology and reliable products using these advanced functional materials. It aims to establish a “1+N” rubber industry ecosystem park with excellent facilities to achieve mutual benefits among businesses, and develop an influential rubber material industry cluster in China and the world.
The Qingdao Advanced Polymer and Metal Materials Industrial Park is one of the city’s 10 specialized parks for emerging industries. As one of the industrial park’s key projects, NERCRAT’s Advanced Functional Materials Industrial Park aims to promote smart and sustainable development as well as high-end products, boosting the industrial chain of advanced polymers and metal materials and building a globally competitive advanced manufacturing cluster in China.
