Chapel Corner Sponsors BOC Tires Sports Sedan
The Sailun supported, BOC Tyres Sports Sedan was out in action during July, competing in the third round of the Victorian Sports Sedan Championship. Running in the top ten throughout the weekend, drive Brendan O’Connor was up against some touch competition in this professional class of racing. Winton Motor Raceway in northern Victoria was host for the third round of this year’s state championship. A field of 21 cars took to the 3km circuit for what was an eventful weekend. Brendan battled throughout the top half of the field during the three races, collecting valuable points towards the championship.
The Sports Sedan category is made up of some of the most highly modified circuit racing vehicles in Australia. There is a wide variety of cars due to the broad regulations, all of which are powered by anything from thundering 6 liter V8’s to rotary engines. This diverse mix always produces close and exciting racing regardless of which circuit the championship is attending.
The Sailun/BOC Tyres Sports Sedan, put together by Chapel Corner, is based on the iconic Holden Commodore. Although unlike its road going counterpart, it has been extensively modified to handle the tough demands of competition by the team at Symes Race Engineering. It is powered by a 5.7 liter V8 which is capable of pushing the car to speed in excess of 250km/hr on well-known circuits such as Sandown International Raceway and Phillip Island grand Prix Circuit.
Along with other scheduled events, the car will be in action again later in the year at the V8 Supercar’s Phillip Island round. Brendan will be competing in the Sports GT category while being broadcast live to an audience of over 200,000 through the Foxtel network. The event will be run over 3 days with multiple races for the Sports GT category.
