Sailun Group Becomes the First Chinese Tire Company to Have Its Science-Based Targets Validated by the SBTi
Recently, Sailun Group has approved near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). As the first Chinese tire company to have its science-based targets validated by the SBTi, Sailun Group is demonstrating its commitment to standardized and science-based emissions reductions, actively supporting global climate action under the Paris Agreement, and showcasing the responsibility of Chinese tire companies in addressing climate change and advancing green, low-carbon development.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a globally recognized corporate climate action organization. It develops standards, tools and guidance that enable companies and financial institutions to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets in line with climate science, supporting global efforts to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C and reach net-zero by 2050 at the latest. Its partners include CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the We Mean Business Coalition, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The SBTi has become one of the most widely recognized frameworks for the validation of corporate climate targets.
With a strong sense of responsibility as a leading global tire company, and guided by its long-term development philosophy and “eco+” sustainability strategy, Sailun Group has developed a clear and actionable medium- and long-term decarbonization roadmap. Taking 2024 as the base year, Sailun Group commits to achieving an absolute reduction of 58.8% in Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions, and an absolute reduction of 35% in Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2034. By 2050, Sailun Group commits to reducing absolute Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90.0%, and reaching net-zero GHG emissions across its value chain.
Sailun Group has consistently integrated green, low-carbon and sustainability principles into its core business strategy and throughout its operations. In recent years, the Group has continued to advance its energy transition and expand the use of clean energy. Through measures such as photovoltaic power generation, the use of biomass fuel, sustainable materials, and the procurement of green electricity and green electricity certificates, Sailun Group has promoted energy conservation and emissions reductions across its production processes, while steadily reducing tire energy intensity and carbon emissions intensity over consecutive years. At the same time, the Group has continued to optimize its global logistics network, promote the transition of transportation structures, prioritize lower-carbon transportation methods such as rail and waterway transport, and encourage suppliers to use recyclable raw material packaging, achieving meaningful progress in its green and low-carbon transformation.
The validation of Sailun Group’s science-based targets by the SBTi marks an important milestone in the Group’s climate action journey. It demonstrates that Sailun Group’s near- and long-term emissions reduction targets are aligned with climate science, and reflects the Group’s determination and responsibility to contribute to global efforts to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C.
Looking ahead, Sailun Group will take this SBTi validation as a new starting point to steadily advance the implementation of its medium- and long-term emissions reduction targets, continue increasing investment in green technologies, and work with value chain partners to address the global challenge of climate change. Through these efforts, Sailun Group aims to contribute a Chinese solution to the green transformation of the global tire industry.
